Becoming a Mentee
The UVic Women in Science Peer Mentorship Program offers a unique opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students in Science and Engineering at UVic. Participants are paired with experienced peer mentors who can be upper-level undergraduates, graduate students, or medical school students, creating a valuable support system for your academic and professional growth.
Introducing the UVic Women in Science Peer Mentorship Program, a dynamic initiative that offers undergraduate and graduate students in STEM at UVic the chance to connect with seasoned peer mentors. Whether you're a budding scientist, engineer, mathematician, or computer scientist, this program provides a gateway to valuable guidance and a world of opportunities.
Why sign up for a mentor?
Picture this: you have a mentor who's been where you are, who can offer insights, answer your questions, and introduce you to exciting UVic programs. They might even connect you with campus labs for volunteering, work experience, Co-op, or Honours. This mentorship isn't about competition; it's about collaboration and empowerment.
Who can be a mentee?
If you're an undergraduate (any year) or a first/second-year graduate student in a STEM program at UVic, this opportunity is open to you, regardless of your gender identity. We'll do our best to pair you with someone in your field who shares your interests.
What's involved?
As a mentee, you'll attend mentorship meetings and program events each semester. Reach out to your mentor via email whenever you have questions or want to explore UVic's offerings. Don't forget the monthly check-ins – your mentor will coordinate with you to find a convenient, virtual meeting time. We'll also ask for your feedback periodically through short surveys.
Mentor-mentee matches?
We aim to match you with someone who aligns with your major/program and shares similar interests and experiences. Whether you're an undergraduate seeking guidance from an upper-level undergraduate or graduate mentor, or you're a medical program student mentoring an undergraduate, we're here to create enriching partnerships.
In the spirit of collaboration and support, we're breaking free from the competitive norm in STEM. Our goal is to cultivate strong, encouraging mentor-mentee relationships that empower both parties. Join us in building a vibrant STEM community where we all thrive together.
